This video tutorial will show you a new technique using a cheap ($40) plug-in from Topaz called Topaz Detail.
Now while the main point of this plug-in is to give you tremendous control over the detail that you can bring up in your image using the fine, medium or large sliders. It has another use that I have been experimenting with lately. If you drag the sliders to the left instead of the right, you decrease the amount of detail in the image. It’s not really like applying a Gaussian Blur or anything, you have more control over the amount of abstraction, and also the way the abstraction comes in.
I’ve used this technique a couple of times now and really like what it can do to simplify your image and remove the detail.
